Situated “Where the mountains of Mourne roll down to the sea,” Bloody Bridge is most commonly used as a prime location for bouldering expeditions due to its location and steep mountain river.
Chiselled from glacial activity back in the last ice age, it is located at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, and the river itself flows right into the sea, making it a good spot for children and adults to try coasteering.
It is most famous for the place it got its name, Bloody Bridge. It is said that during the 1641 rebellion, prisoners were executed after a disagreement, and their corpses were thrown over the bridge.
The area is stunning, and there is nothing better than a coffee and ice cream in Newcastle after your coasteering adventure.
